Learning to hurt is how we learn to heal.

We can't escape hurt, but that doesn't stop us from trying—often in ways that are even harder and more painful than the thing we're running from. Therapy is the process of getting to know our hurt. Really getting to know it. Sitting with it, examining it, helping us understand it in ways nothing else can. Instead of trying to get away from pain, it becomes a doorway—showing us meaning where we thought there was none. And in doing that, the hurt doesn’t own us anymore.
